A 19-year-old teen, the brain behind the whole thing, decided to take things into his own hands after he failed to land his dream job at the bank.
He had readied fake seals and challans of the public sector lender, and had other paraphernalia like a cash counting machine needed to run a bank's branch, on the upper floor of his residence at Panruti, roughly 25 kilometres from Tamil Nadu.
He did not however put up any signboard. The SBI Panruti branch manager lodged a complaint with police seeking action after a tip-off given by a customer of the bank that the man was opening an SBI branch and has challans as well.
After questioning, he was arrested for forgery and possession of counterfeit seals. The printer responsible for the printing of the challans and another who had made fake seals were held for similar offences and abetment.
They were produced before a magistrate court and enlarged on bail. No complaint have been received so far about the teen on issues of if he already cheated people by soliciting deposits or facilitating loans.
The late father of the teen had worked for SBI and his mother had retired from the same bank some years back. The teen's mother, who has mobility issues, and another woman, a relative living in the same house with them had no clue about his idea.
