Healthy Ways To Strengthen Your Immune System Against Covid-19

Every part of your body, including your immune system, functions better when protected from environmental assaults and certain bad habits. It is very important to identify and note which habits weaken your immune system. The weaker your immune system, the harder it is for your body to fight off infections and diseases such as covid-19.

There are ways to boost, imrpove and straighten your immune system against any disease, which includes covid-19. Below are some of the ways you can do so:

1. Don't Smoke:

Smoking is the one of the biggest cause of preventable deaths in the world, accounting for nearly 80,000 deaths yearly in countries such as England alone. 5 out of 10 smokers in Ghana are likely to die from a smoke related disease. Smoking is bad for you because it makes your blood thicker, and increase chances of clot formation. It also increases your blood pressure and heart rate, making your heart work harder than normal. It also narrows your arteries, reducing the amount of oxygen rich blood circulating to your organs. This weakens your immune system and can lead to certain complications as well such heart attacks and stroke.

2. Eat A Diet High In Fruits And Vegetables:

Eating a low-fat, plant-based diet high in fruits and vegetables may help give the immune system a boost. The immune system relies on white blood cells that produce antibodies to combat bacteria, viruses, and other invaders such as covid-19. Vegetarians have been shown to have more effective white blood cells when compared to nonvegetarians, due to a high intake of vitamins and low intake of fat derived from fruits and vegetables.

3. Exercise Regularly:

Exercise benefits and boosts your immune system against diseases in many ways. It can increase blood flow, help clear bacteria out of your airways, cause a brief elevation in your body temperature that may be protective, strengthen antibodies to help fight infections such as covid-19, and reduce stress hormones. Exercise also causes immune cells to be more effective. It also improves the immune response and improves immune markers.

3. Get Adequate Sleep:

Our bodies need sleep to rest and recharge. Without a sufficient amount of sleep, we increase our risk for developing serious health problems as well as increase the chances of our immune system being suppressed and weakened.

4. Try Minimizing Stress:

When we're stressed, our immune system's ability to fight off antigens is reduced. That is why we are more susceptible to infections such as covid-19. The stress hormone corticosteroid can suppress the effectiveness of the immune system. So try minimizing stress and stop overthinking.
