The Donor Episode One

  In primary 6, Rodney and Ruby got into a fist fight over a food Rodney mistakenly spilled on Ruby, and since then the two refused to speak to each other and have not been in talking terms with each other since then. Their teachers and friends at the time tried reuniting the two, but it clearly didn’t work out. It has been ten years after the incident, and they were still not in talking terms with each other. Not long after their Wassce results were out, They both successfully got admitted into different universities in different regions.
       Rodney was admitted into The University Of Cape coast whiles Ruby was admitted into The Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science And Technology. Life for the two went on normally on their various campuses, as Rodney met a lady in the second semester of his second year on campus, with whom he started a strong and healthy relationship with. Ruby,also in her second year,on the other hand got engaged in her first year of schooling to a wealthy doctor named Kwame who lived overseas but normally visited Ghana to check on his family here. Rodney and Ruby’s paths visibly seemed impossible to cross each other since they appeared to have diverted towards different directions until something unexpected happened. Getting into the third year of their academic calendar, when school resumed,Rodney who had received his fees,fully from his dad, was getting set to go on campus.
        He was packing his belongings which he believed he would need for the upcoming semester when he heard his cell phone ring. With no time to waste he quickly checked who it was. It was Asabea his girlfriend. With smiles all over his face, he quickly answered the call. “Hello baby” Rodney smiled. Not in the best of moods, Asabea worriedly replied “Rod…Rodney, there is trouble”. “Trouble, wha…what do u mean by tha…that?” Rodney anxiously asked. In a low tone Asabea replied “Am pregnant”.
    “Preg what?!!!” Rodney asked in a low but harsh tone. “No…no no no Asabea, it can’t be,we…we…we used protection through out our sexual activities so how can u be pregnant? If this is a joke,baby its not funny” Rodney continued. “WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY IF THIS IS A JOKE. I SAID I AM..” Asabea screamed before lowering her voice to continue “Pregnant”. “So who is responsible?” Rodney asked,anxiously. “What is that suppose to mean……its you of course” Asabea replied. Rodney’s sense of joy temporarily vanished. His tummy begun to ache as thoughts he never knew existed within in his mind begun to profusely run through his head.
      He was clearly confused and unsure of what to do or say next. “Hello..hello Rodney…are you there?...say something” Asabea said. “Asabea..tha…that baby can’t be born, can it?”Rodney whispered. “Wha…wait what are u suggesting?” Asabea asked. Rodney chuckled and said “You know we are both students and we don’t work. We don’t even live on our own and feed ourselves to talk of bringing another being into this world to feed.”. “So what are you suggesting la” Asabea asked in a manner which mean’t she was about losing her patience.
