The Donor Episode Seventeen

               Episode Seventeen
     "So where is Jessy's daddy? Rodney asked. "He is in The States,working as a doctor" Ruby replied. "Oh ok,that's great" Rodney smiled. "And yourself,where are your kids and your wife?" Ruby asked, as she took a bite from her plate. "Wife?kids?hehehe. I don't have any.No wife no kids,at least not yet" Rodney smiled. "What?really?Wow" Ruby gasped. "Wow like how?" Rodney asked, with a focus look and smile on Ruby. "Wow in a good way not a bad way. I mean,you are handsome and all. And you are great with Kids, see how you even treat mine,so I can't believe you don't have kids and you are not married" Ruby replied.
       "But are you dating anyone?" Ruby asked. "I was....way back in my tertiary schooling days,but it didn't go down well." Rodney replied. "Oh I see,what happened?I hope you didn't hit her too" Ruby smiled. "Hahaha,wow look,another smile" Rodney said. "Why does me smiling excite you?...answer the question,did you hit her?" Ruby asked. "Ruby,just because I made a dreadful mistake by hitting you doesn't mean I hit women....you know I didn't want to,but you provoked me that day" Rodney replied. "Oh I did.Tell me what did I do to provoke you?" Ruby asked. "Come on...the past is the past,let's not bring it up please." Rodney replied. "No...no lets bring it up. Because I don't recall provoking you that day until you hitted me" Ruby said,angrily.
      Rodney noticed the change in Ruby's mood and quickly replied "Ruby...calm down..I didn't mean it that way...let's just drop it". "No,I want to hear it...Am perfectly calm" Ruby replied,dropping her spoon in her plate. "Jessy is here,please lets not do this" Rodney said. "Jessy dear,would you excuse me and Mr Rodney here for a few minutes,take a seat at the next table over there would you" Ruby said to her daughter,pointing at a table a few feets away from theirs. "Ok mum" Jessica replied. She then did as she was told and moved to the next empty table. "You can talk now" Ruby said to Rodney,with her elbows on the table and hands beneath her chin,with no trace of a smile on her face. Rodney smiled and said "I don't have any quarrel with you. We are adults now. Let's just drop it". "I said no...what did I do to provoke you that day?" Ruby asked firmly. "Ok...ok,I was talking to Naana that day and you just pushed me.That's it" Rodney said. "Oh,oh I see now. So you punched me because I pushed you,when you were standing in my way. And if I could remember properly,I asked you to excuse me." Ruby replied. "Ruby,am sorry if I said something wrong. I shouldn't have used the word provoked. My apologies" Rodney begged. "You know what?Take us back to the bank now,Jessy and I have to get home now" Ruby replied. 'Sure....sure I will" Rodney whispered.
        He then drove them back to the bank. Before Ruby and Jessy could alight Rodney said "Am sorry ones more,here take my card and contact me sometime". Ruby did not reply,she just snatched the card and lifted her little girl up and then slammed the door. Rodney watched them enter her car,he then sighed and shook his head when they drove off,before he drove off as well. A few days later,on an early Saturday morning,Rodney was awakened by a phone call from a strange number he couldn't identify. But he answered anyway. "Hello" Rodney said. "Hello...sorry to bother you....this is Ruby" Ruby replied. "Ruby?...wow I feel honoured receiving a phone call from you because of what happened the other day at the restaurant. I seriously thought you will never call." Rodney smiled. "Well...it's not me....I mean am not calling you for me,its Jessica.She just can't stop talking  about you ever since that day at the bank. She kept asking of when she will see you again. She's not letting me rest at all with talks and questions of you. So...so I was kind of hoping if maybe I could bring her over for just a few minutes and then we will leave. That's all.Can....can we come?" Ruby asked. "Yea...yea Why not? Of course you can come. I'd be glad to have you as my guest." Rodney smiled.
